The Owen Brown Lattice: Wayfinding

Owen Brown Lattice is a landscape-based approach to urban development that is informed by early site research into existing crime and water pollution. Site research maps were created to understand the history of the site and its development. The site visit photo essay records Lake Elkhorn as an amenity that is not easily accessible. It also notes water pollution and the invisibility of upstream water sources and surface waters that feed Lake Elkhorn.

As a partner project, we analyzed Lotus Garden and Turenscape's Shanghai Houtan Park, both which inspired our design proposal, which presents water as a way finding device  that activates a 3D lattice of walkways and waterlines. The 'Passeggiata' extends North-South from Elkhorn Pond to Lake Elkhorn through a new public plaza lines with mixed-use buildings and a civic center. Green roofs, facades, plazas, and streets are designed as constructed urban hydrology.
